Experience Intelligence (XI)

A New Standard for Ethical AI in Disability

AI should be shaped by the people who live the realities it's meant to serve.

What is Experience Intelligence?

Experience Intelligence (XI) is the integration of lived experience, professional expertise, and contextual understanding into the design, governance, and deployment of AI systems.

XI recognizes that the deepest insight into complex human problems comes from those who have lived them, navigated them, and supported others through them. Not from data alone.

XI = LX + PX + CX

The Three Pillars of XI

Lived Experience (LX)

Embodied understanding gained through living with disability, caregiving, and navigating systems that fail real people. LX provides nuance, empathy, and real-world insight.

Professional Experience (PX)

Expertise earned through years of working within the systems that serve people. Applied in real conditions. PX provides technical accuracy, systems knowledge, and professional credibility.

Contextual Experience (CX)

The ability to read and navigate the shifting landscape of policy, technology, and human behaviour in real time. CX provides strategic clarity and adaptive decision-making.

Why It Matters Now

AI systems are being built at extraordinary speed. But speed without wisdom creates harm. Especially for people navigating disability, aging, and complex life transitions.

The people who understand those systems best are not always in the room when decisions get made. Experience Intelligence is a framework that changes that.

It names what has always been true: the most valuable intelligence is not artificial. It is human, earned, and lived.

The Meta-Skill That Activates XI

Adaptive Sensemaking is the ability to interpret complex, rapidly changing situations, identify what truly matters, and adjust decisions and actions in real time, while helping others navigate the shifting landscape.

AI will do the tasks.

Humans will do the interpreting.

Experience Intelligence is not a theory. It is a standard. A standard for how AI should be built, governed, and deployed when the stakes are human.
